When you’re a con man, as good at your job as you are, sometimes you still get in over your head. Last month brought the release of a brand new graphic novel from Markosi Enterprises and the creative team of Wes Locher and Emre Ozdamarlar, The Undoubtables. Billed as “Ocean’s 11 meets Payback” we get introduced to a rag-tag team of criminals looking for an easy payday, but find more trouble than they bargained for.
Spencer “Spade” has just escaped out of a prison that was supposed to be inescapable. Now he is back on the streets with no money and looking to get back on his feet. That means putting a team together and going to collect from those who still owe him, which starts with Vito Accardi, who never paid for the job that landed Spade in jail. When Vito refuses to give Spade the money he is due, Spade and his team take the money, along with some extra from two other mobsters present who they should not have robbed. While the team tries to undertake some more jobs, they have to contend with the police, Vito, and some angry monsters on their tail.
Spade is a criminal “good guy” of sorts; a criminal who will never kill on job, but instead thinks of brilliant ways to pull it off where no one has to die. His charm is a large part of what brings the book to life, but it also is the twist and turns the story takes along the way. If you are a fan of crime thrillers with an interesting cast of unique characters, look no further than this 96-page, action packed graphic novel.
