COVID-19…It’s that virus we’ve all been dreading for what seems forever and a day or month or probably a year. In some form or fashion we’ve all been exposed to the quarantine of the virus or many have had the virus. I knew at some point the thing would make it’s way into the “funny” pages. Savage Dragon puts us into the comfort zone of Malcom and Maxine. The book shows us several days of their solitude. It feels comforting that our heroes can be exposed to many of the same issues people faced during the pandemic. This is an anniversary  issue, so you can feel that Larsen was reaching for a story to tell. He did give us a bloody blood bath battle scene, when Malcom and Maxine were about have a bout of coitus just to pass the time. It seems par for the course…granted the pair are dealing with Maxine’s mom dropping a lucrative sex tape. Yikes!! The purpose of the story  was to simply drop a cliffhanger at the end of the story.  The rest of the book consists of several back up stories. The Deadly DUO(say it three times) have three stories where the pair are trying to stop bank robberies. The stories have some similar events that come off as a nice tongue and cheek to super-heroes that leap before they look. Larsen drives his point quite well. The final story looks to be Larsen’s first Dragon story. We are glad Larsen polished his skills over the years. This is fun issue with lots going on and reminds us to wash our hands and stay safe.
