Review: ★★★★☆

The sorcerer Kulan Gath has raised the blood demon Jhoatun Lau(it’s a giant minotaur looking thing with a head that looks like the Batman who laughs). This thing is causing havoc in Japan. Our heroes for this tale consists of Doctor Voodoo, Conan the Barbarian, Elektra, Punisher, Venom, and Wolverine. These are several characters that you shouldn’t really put in a room together. The purpose of this book is to let these characters cut loose in bloody fashion. They use the Avenger’s banner to justify the means to this carnage. They are avenging the souls Gath killed to raise this god thing. It’s a fun book, that’s not for kids. Deodato’s artwork is perfect for this book. It’s dark, gritty and bloody. The best part is from time to time Conan’s narration reminds me of the Conan the Barbarian movie. Duggan does a great job of introducing that tone to the story from time to time. The purpose of the story is to get our heroes to eventually make a choice, but not one made here. The book doesn’t really leave us with a cliffhanger but gives us something to look forward to reading next month.
