High School can have it’s ups and downs. Bullies can’t be an ideal situation for anyone. This new title from Scottie Young reminded me of three different animated cartoons including; Recess, Codenamed: Kids Next Door and Ed, Edd and Eddie. It just has that vibe. The comic starts with three friends waiting for the bus on their first day of high school. The character designs didn’t seem stereotypical until they introduced Rufus, which is ok. Rufus looks like he can cause Ernie, Edith and Spencer some trouble. High school can be a surprise for freshman bullies. Rufus learns this the hard way. Young creates a nice justification for a bully that had what was coming to him. Aaron Conley creates a fantastic and detailed world for these characters to live. His style looks like it was pulled right out of a great Saturday morning cartoon. The title Bully Wars has a greater meaning to the story as it’s a thing or a bully right of passage. This issue is fun start to what could be a fun ride back to high school.
