Review: ★★★☆☆
Moonshine is one of the strangest stories to be dropped into if you’ve never picked up an issue. Immediately the book felt like an odd ghost story which actually torments your old grandpa or it has a Southern chain gang swamp appeal. The book then twists into a family gangster tale with a touch of supernatural to throw an even bigger twist. It took me a couple reads, but Brian Azzarello’s Moonshine is going to be a book to seek older back issues. Risso’s art and colors remind me of Frank Miller. I would say Risso does a fantastic job with his use of dark and light to create atmosphere and tone. Moonshine #9 might not be the best jumping on point, but you have to start somewhere. Considering the end of this issue it’ll be interesting to see where it goes from here.
