Review: ★★☆☆☆

As Aric’s time on his new-found home comes to an end, it does so in a bit of a disappointing way.  Since the bounty hunters were introduced to take Aric down, only their debut issue really fleshed them out.  After that they became fairly generic, just serving to move the story forward of him falling once more and picking things back up.  Here we would have hoped for a better explanation of why his now closest friends betrayed him (which still doesn’t quite ring true by the end.)  We would have hoped for the bounty hunters to really show us how bad-ass they are, as seen in issue #10 (which we really don’t get to see here.)  And we would have hoped for Aric to finally “unleash the beast”, meaning letting out his full power to take these guys down (which doesn’t happen.)  All the pieces are there for a fantastic finale to this part of Aric’s journey, but it just doesn’t come together.  The one thing it does get right is finally revealing what caused Aric to leave Earth.  It’s a heartbreaking of a reason as we would have expected and shows that going home is not going to be easy.  If anything, while this closing might have been a bit of a let down, what’s to come still holds plenty of promise.
