Review: ★★★★☆

It’s been so long since we’ve last seen an ongoing Shadowman series, its hard to believe he’s finally back.  No more Magpie, no more Deadside, this series brings Jack back to New Orleans and back to his roots.  That means running into his old flame to kick things off and already getting in trouble with former enemies.  Andy Diggle does a great job to make it feel like we are picking right back up where the series left off, like a favorite, comfortable pair of shoes.  What really gives the series a fantastic relaunch is Stephen Segovia’s art which pops right off the page.  Valiant’s books always looks amazing, but Segovia really knocks it out of the park here.  For all the talk off it picking things back up, the only downside is going to be for new readers.  X-O Manowar and Ninjak, both with their newer series, had very accessible books.  If you are not up to date about Shadowman, you’re going to need to get caught up elsewhere.  For everyone else, just enjoy the return of one of Valiant’s best in top form.
