Review: ★★★☆☆

Assassinistas opens up with Dominic and Taylor preparing for the mission to rescue little Kyler. Granted, getting “high” on the back porch probably isn’t a great way to train. This issue is designed to show how really unprepared these two actually happen to be. It does bring a bit more back story into the reason young Kyler was kidnapped by one of their own. The story brings  an otherwise dark subject matter to more down to earth feel. Gilbert Hernandez’s artwork isn’t all that detailed or realistic but it’s emotional. We grasp what the characters are feeling even though the book is a tad over dramatic and has a soap opera feel to it. The series is a decent read so far and I would expect some shake ups along the way. The book does have a tip of mystery to make it interesting to pick up the next issue.
