Review: ★★★★☆

I thought same thing as everyone else, “Isn’t there a Witchblade comic out there already?” Not exactly. The book hasn’t seen print in the last two years. What we get is a new vision, or reboot of the series. Our new holder of the blade is one Alex Underwood. She’s an ex-reporter seeking to help the wrongs done to a beaten wife. The narrative of this first story is a tad zig-zag. It took me a moment to figure out what was going on and what’s happening to Alex. Her body is going through changes. The story deals with Alex attempting to adjust to what’s happened to her. There’s a mystery character that we’re not to sure about but he’s apparently there to help Alex. The artwork by Roberta Ingranata is fantastic. I’m a huge fan of his photo realistic style. It’s still comic book like for the most part but the use of the black smoke effect that gives us some idea that the arm band attached to Alex is doing something. This first issue is a good start and it’ll a decent book to keep up with when they reveal more of the story.
