Review: ★★☆☆☆

Sword of Ages is a new title from IDW by Gabriel Rodriguez. The title opens with a triangle looking space craft and an encounter with a giant jellyfish. There’s a chosen one in training with a magical sword and talking animals.  The story comes with its token old guy called Merlin. Even with a few unusual things, the comic has a ton of familiar story elements that we have seen so many times before. It makes the book somewhat hard to jump into reading. It’s really too wordy right from the start which causes it to drag the story a tad. Any story has time to get going to create a flow. The truly saving grace for the book is Gabriel Rodriguez’s artwork. It’s perfect in just about every sense. The anatomy is spot on and a pleasure to witness. The book has a quality prison break scene with apes that is done with solid action and fun. Overall I think the book so far is a good start but we need to become more invested into the characters before it can really get off the ground.
