Review:  ★★★★☆

With this backwards version of Next Generation, the Tiptons finally did something I thought impossible.  They actually made it seem interesting and plausible of why Wesley Crusher would join the bridge crew.  It’s a cold dark world and decisions like that are born out of necessity.  Though, some decisions are just born out of it being a cold dark world, such as Picard being all for his Enterprise crew prisoners to be experimented on for “scientific” purposes.   Being cold and calculating may serve Picard in certain circumstances, but it all looks to be coming back to bite him and the Enterprise in the ass.  While most everything works well, they do introduce a very troubled Guinan this issue which leads nowhere.  It would have been fine if they actually had any use for her this issue, beside just showing how twisted everyone can be.  Hopefully they’ll how her purpose sooner than later, but for now we will have plenty of incoming action to come back to next issue.
