“Death is but a phase.”

Our story begins with a trip to South America and the quest for immortality. High Priest Nagaric of an Aztec tribe has made a sacrifice to bring about the Goddess of the Earth and attempt to gain her power. His long sought plan was stopped by Conquistador Francisco Cortes. Cortes gains the respect of the now saved Goddess Pachamama. Thus our story jumps forward 10 years to Spain and the introduction to Aluna. The story doesn’t tell us that this is the goddess and Cortez’s child but it would be a good assumption. Aluna has to spend this story into becoming a lady and all the issues that come from growing up. This could have a lot going for it but it reminds me of something. Disney’s Elana of Avalor has a similar feel with the Spanish characters and child for a mystical jewel. The art is solid and comes across like the time period should be. Aluna is captivating with her small sense of rebellion and when she uses the rules to her advantage. The cover might draw readers into the book plus it comes from the writers of Assassin’s Creed and Batman Arkham Origins. Hopefully there’s enough story to make 8 issues interesting for all the readers.
