Review: ★★★★☆
Based on the Fighting Fantasy Gamebook, Freeway Fighter written by Ian Livingston is the next chapter in the series. Imagine being one of the last 15% of the planet’s population that survived a virus that killed the population. De La Rosa is a race car driver that survived the fall and is continuing to survive what’s left. The book plays like a Mad Max/Walking Dead (minus the walkers) sort of story. Unlike Mad Max, De La Rosa lacks the moral aspects Max’s police training allowed him. Much like the Walking Dead the art style shows the world in a worn way like everything is used of has a layer of slim and guck. It works really well for the environment. The basis of the story revolves around our creators begin car nuts and lovers of muscle car. De La Rosa’s car is the story’s supporting character and it works well since Rosa talks to the car. Freeway Fighter is created with much love and dedication so it should continue be a solid book.
