“The Scent of Limes”

Some stories are straight forward and to the point. Some stories are shrouded in mystery making us question, well, why are we reading it? Underwinter is a strange tale where a group of musicians have been recruited to play in a questionable, yet profitable circumstances. Symphony sets up the mystery in a strange mansion where the host claims that they have six months til to fix the “damage”. Underwinter is mix of poetry, pain, sex, and the scent of limes. I have no idea what the limes mean yet, but I am intrigued. The book’s mystery revolves around the four musicians and their curiosity of what might happen to them. Ray Fawkes has created a dark image that uses a well crafted design. It appears to be a combination of watercolor and charcoal. The story has some satanic overtones that make more for adult readers. You might be curious or repulsed by the final image in the book but for me I’ll see where it’s going and maybe find the good the darkness.
