Review: ★★★★☆
Extremity is a basic revenge story where the main characters are directly in conflict with one another. It’s about two warring air clans named the Roto and the Paznina. For some as of yet unknown reason the Paznina has attacked the Roto. They maimed the primary character Thea in way that actually seems incredibly personal to the artist. Like I said, it’s a revenge story and a pretty decent one at that. Daniel Warren Johnson has shown what a labor of love that Extremity is to him. His art is detailed and visceral. The book is graphic with a tremendous amount of blood and violence. It’s the one thing that actually pushes the book beyond being simply something we have seen in other comics. There is this little like Mad Max seemingly inspired moment that happens, but it works really well too. It will be interesting to see how Mr. Johnson can continue to allow his characters to grow.  Starting off, the series has caught our attention in all the right ways.
