IDW continues its ongoing series Star Trek:  Boldly Go with the events after Star Trek Beyond. This month’s issue focuses on the character Jaylah. Sofia Boutella pulled a fantastic performance in the latest Trek film.  Seeing her featured in print makes us want to grab this right away and see what’s happening. The story does a flashback sort of thing by giving us the back story of who and where Jaylah came from in the first place. Mike Johnson does a great job of running Jaylah’s life backwards and giving us enough information to care about the character even more than the movie could. We get to see her run-in with Krall, her life with her family, her birth, and that the markings on her face are symbolic. Tony Shasteen’s artwork is solid.  He provides enough detail so we also enjoy the sci-fi adventure and the “human story” within Jaylah’s lifetime. I can only hope that Star Trek: Boldly Go will continue her adventures further as this issue really showed she can be in the forefront with the rest of the Enterprise crew.
