Review:  ★★★

Empowered and the Soldier of Love continues the adventures of Adam Warren’s titular hero. Empowered is a somewhat goofy hero who isn’t actually that good at being a hero. For the most part EMP has good intentions when it comes to saving the day. Our story begins with the intro of our villain that happens to hate love, ironically called the Soldier of Love. Her goal is to make all the superheroes go gaga over each other and destroy the city in what ensues. Empowered and Ninjette are the only ones not affected by her gun. The story is fun, but I’m not sure who the audience is for this book. It doesn’t really work for kids due to the blacked out language. The art is normally done by Adam, but Karla does an excellent job illustrating the story. I suppose anime/manga fans would enjoy this book highly. It’s a fun book and not ever reading an Empowered book it makes wanna go back and check out some earlier stories. As edgy as this first issue is, it certainly will catch your attenion. Plus the story is right on time for Valentine’s Day too for a great gift/read.
