Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: The Patriot Review

Episode: The Patriot (S4E10)

Review: ★★★★☆

Much of what this season of Agents has become is to bring the organization into a positive light for the public. During this episode, Director Mace has a public ceremony celebrating Daisy’s heroic deeds. The point is to bring a hero to the public view. The whole situation seemed really forced and you would think they would have an inside place to have such a ceremony. Plus Coulson and Mac are there for security detail, which why would you use such high-ranking operatives for security? The whole of the situation is to expose Mace’s secret and enlighten the viewers to what is really going on at the agency. The whole solution to the events end up putting Coulson back into his proper spot. The added bonus is that we some more screen time with General Talbot and Adrian Pasdar is on point with his acting chops. We get to see why the show is titled Patriot.

The season’s sub-title is LMD.  Agnts has briefly avoided the “robot Apocalypse” but it keeps coming back around. Radcliff and his second fembot Aida 2.0 are still trying to recover the Darkhold from S.H.I.E.L.D.. They continually have issues with their captive and her replacement LMD. The whole situation is very interesting and it jumps into the ethics of what Radcliff is trying to do. He questions some of his methods and the way Aida approaches each situation.

The one thing the season is missing is the reveal of a big bad. I want to think that there is someone pulling the strings of the Watchdogs. Senator Nadeer provides somewhat of an interesting bad guy, but her motivations are to stop the Inhumans. Maybe Hydra is still in the back ground somewhere. I hope we get something going soon, I don’t really think could tie itself to the Guardians movie. S.H.I.E.L.D. is a spy story that really needs to get back to its spy roots.
