Review:  ★★☆☆☆

The Deviations event running through several of IDW’s biggest properties is ripe with potential to pullout some killer stories.  For the X-Files, they decided to see what would happen if Fox was the one abducted rather than his sister Samantha.  I am all for that possibility, as it really is an intriguing twist.  However, this issue shows nothing to change the formula.  Samantha takes her place at the FBI on the X-Files, still teams with Scully, and still is obsessed with alien abductions.  Apparently her and Fox turn out to be the exact same person.  The issue shows how the abduction changed, but then follows nearly the same events with a small twist ending that lacks much impact for a one-shot.  Being a one-shot is what really hurts the issue.  For only having one issue to show how things changed, it only showed how things would still remain the same.  It needed something more dynamic, or at least show how Samantha was different from her brother, not just a female clone.  If this went on as a miniseries or ongoing, they could have had more time to explain, but as a one-shot it didn’t have the needed punch.
