The Flash: The Darkness and the Light Review

Episode: The Darkness and the Light (S02E05)

Review:  ★★★★☆

Can the Flash show get any better? Yes, almost every week.

This episode sees the return of Harrison Wells. Just not our Harrison Wells, the one from Earth 2, or as Cisco decides to call him, Harry. Harry has come to help Barry defeat Zoom. Tom Cavanagh must be having a great time playing the same character, but much different from than what we’ve seen before. The truth is we get to see what Harrison is really like. He is blunt and honest about what is going on around them. Harry believes Barry can do anything with his speed. I like this version of the character as he pushes everyone to their fullest.

As with every episode, we get our low-level bad guy with motivations of killing Barry. This happens to be the female version of Dr. Light. She also happens to be a doppelgänger of one of Barry’s ex-girl friends, Linda Park. That implies a whole new level of evil. The whole bad guy thing is very formulaic of any super hero show, but that formula works well for the Flash. We also get to see Barry use his powers differently each time.

One of the coolest things about this episode is that we actually get to see Zoom in the flesh. I hope he is a new bad guy and not some one we already know.  The show also introduces another new character by the name of Kendra Saunders who we last saw briefly at the first season.

Having Tom Cavanagh back is such a treat, even being gone for a few episodes we were missing so much from what his performance brings to the show  Hopefully his Earth 2 doppelgänger is here to stay.  The twist on Dr. Light was also a refreshing one, and a good was to utilize Linda again.  Zoom is also proving to be an interesting new villain, one we can’t wait to see more of next week.
