Agent Carter: Valediction Review

  • Episode:  Valediction  (S01E08)
  • Review:  ★★★★★

As it’s been said before, all good things must come to an end. Sadly Agent Carter ends it’s run, but the final episode is fantastic. The SSR is in disarray with the sacrifice of Chief Dooley. It seems Leviathan is closing in on their final goal. With all this, Howard Stark returns to New York to save the day. Howard finally convinces the SSR of his innocence. The gas used in the last episode was actually designed to keep American soldiers awake during long battles. We found out it doesn’t quite have that effect on people that was intended. Peggy finally gets her due by trying to set up Dr. Ivchenko. She uses Howard as bait since the Dr’s true goal is to embarrass Stark. The ending sequence is played out really well with Peggy saving the day. We also get to learn some skills that Jarvis has been hiding since the series began.

Everything gets wrapped up very nicely.  The show successfully parallels the ending for Captain America:  The First Avenger, but this time Peggy is on the radio and comes to terms with Steve never coming back.  This time she also talks down Howard and gets him to actually come back.

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the awesome cameo at the end.  While it was small, it could work to either play into a possible second season, or if nothing else it just gave us a greater insight into the Winter Soldier program.  While we love seeing more hints at the Winter Soldier program, we really hope we will see more of this potential villain team-up in a second season.

The truth about the Agent Carter series is that is solidifies Peggy’s legend in the Marvel Universe. It points out all the hard painful choices that a hero must make from time to time. The ending of the show also moves in a place to also help building up Hydra and the internal issue it becomes in the future. Hopefully the show sees another season in the future as we love Peggy and we want to get to know her more.
