- Episode: The Fearsome Dr. Crane (S01E014)
- Review: ★★★★☆
James Gordon and Harvey Bullock investigate a serial killer who is targeting members of a fear support group and using their greatest fear against them. Bruce absolves Gordon of his promise to find his parents killer because he has made so little progress. Gordon and Bullock discover that the serial killer is Gerald Crane. They are able to save one of his victims, but Crane evades capture.
Fish contacts Maroni and rats out Penguin. At first Maroni doesn’t believe it so he takes Penguin to a cabin in the woods to test his loyalty. Finding him lacking, Maroni tries to kill Penguin but he escapes and returns to Gotham in a church bus. At the GCPD, Edward Nygma frames the medical examiner Dr. Guerra so that he will get fired and Nygma will no longer be suspended for interfering with Dr. Guerra’s medical duties. Gordon lets Thompkins that a job as the GCPD medical examiner has opened up. Mooney tries to leave Gotham City by boat, but the boat is attacked by mercenaries.
I am really happy to see how much Gotham is opening up. There are more and more threads that I cannot wait to see where they go. Finally, the show is turning into something me and my comic book friends can sit around and speculate about. The characters are starting to shape into their own and less and less do I hear someone complain that “He wouldn’t do that” or “That’s not how it is in the comics.” For myself, I have always been a huge fan of the Riddler. I am thrilled to see his transformation into the villain he is destined to become. Trust me when I say where ever it is going with him, it isn’t getting there fast enough.
While I really did not like the whole Gordon/Thompkins thing, the longer Barbara is out of the picture the more I realized how much I disliked her character in this series. Sometimes it seems that the best way to right a mistake in story writing is to just write out the problem. I am sure Barbara isn’t gone for good sadly, so we will just have to wait and see what happens.
– Its Gotham so not a ton of easter eggs as per the usual beyond the most obvious of the appearance of Gerald Crane and his son Johnathan, of course eventually the teenager who will become the Scarecrow.
– However, if you know something I didn’t mention, let me know down below!
